The Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) has confirmed that Indonesia will host the 2024 edition of its flagship event, the World MMA Championships, from 6 to 14 December 2024.
This year’s event will mark a historic milestone, as U18 and Senior athletes will compete together in a joint competition for the first time, making it a landmark moment for the GAMMA community.
The Championships are supported by the National Olympic Committee of Indonesia and organised by the national GAMMA member PERTACAMI / GAMMA Indonesia. The event will feature seven days of intense competition at the Dewa United Arena in Banten, just west of Jakarta. Approximately 500 athletes representing 80 GAMMA member countries are expected to attend, making this the largest GAMMA event to date, following the highly successful 2023 World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
The schedule includes three days of competition for U18 athletes, followed by four days of senior competition in both MMA and Striking MMA categories, offering a showcase of emerging talent and experienced athletes. In addition to the competition, a special Championships Ceremony will take place on 10 December, celebrating the world’s top MMA athletes.
“We’re excited to bring our World Championships to Indonesia for the first time,” said GAMMA President Alexander Engelhardt. “Indonesia has shown itself to be an excellent host for martial arts events. With the unique combination of U18 and Senior athletes competing together, this year’s edition promises to be extraordinary.”
“It is with immense pride and honor that I welcome all participants of the 2024 GAMMA World Championships to Indonesia,” said PERTACAMI / GAMMA Indonesia President Tommy Paulus Hermawan. “This event is more than just a competition—it’s a celebration of the values that define the sport of MMA. I look forward to personally welcoming everyone to what will surely be a remarkable event.”
The 2024 GAMMA World Championships will cap off a busy year for the International Federation, which has already held competitions across various regions, including the African Games, Pan American Championships, and European Championships.
